Money and alternatives

http://www.themoneyfix.org/

While in Iowa (more on that later, hopefully...) I watched this movie with Lauren in one of her classes. It is really quite good. The idea of a mutual credit system is pretty cool. Tough to get started and tough to make work, but if you got it right, it would be wicked sweet.

I am going to try to learn more.

Trouble Sleeping

Somehow my sleep cycle has become severely garfunkled (aka: garbled). Hence, it is 1:00 am and I just finished washing the dishes while listening to Phantom of the Opera. Not a bad thing to do, in and of itself, but I wish I was asleep and had finished washing/phantoming around 10:30 or so. Oh well.

Thrift vs. Health, a food dilema

I have always tried to be smart with my money. Food is a place that this is tough. I really like food and I like buying expensive ingredients to make yummy food to eat. This is costly.
Through Jungle Quest, I now have a membership to Sam's club, which means more food for less money. I did a price comparison survey (for incomplete) and found a remarkable difference in the price of food at Publix (grocery store) vs. Sams/BJs (wholesalers). Many items cost 40% less at the Wholesalers vs. the same food at Publix. This is a good thing when it comes to being thrifty.

Then comes the other half of the equation. Lauren likes for me to eat healthy and in an environmentally conscious manner. I like to eat healthy and in an environmentally conscious manner. However, organic, locally grown foods from Whole Foods and Native Sun are expensive, in contradiction to my attempts at cheapness.

Maybe these two things can help each other out. If I am careful, I can buy some food at Sam's for cheap and in bulk while also buying nice organic veggies from Native Sun. This gives me a sort of "average" cost, while getting me the better healthy food. If I am careful about which of the foods from Sam's I buy, I can try to get foods that are still "ok" for me (not necessarily good, but not definitely bad) and keep my healthiness level higher than it has been in the past, without destroying my budget.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Karaoke

I just got back from an interesting karaoke experience.

The place was interesting, you basically rented your own little room with seating for probably 15 people and a full karaoke setup. Kind of fun.

Highlights were figuring out that I could change the tempo and key of songs by pressing buttons and singing "Puff the Magic Dragon," b/c I had been trying to remember the words from a long time ago.

BAH SHMAH!!!!!!

I just got a speeding ticket. Stinking Jacksonville with all its construction. Apparently a 6 lane divided highway is a good place for a 35 mph speed limit.

Among the things I would like to spend 270 dollars on, a traffic citation is not near the top of the list.

Frustrating.

I wasn't around when they made this, but it is better than anything else on the web at the moment.

Apparently this is a startup north florida guide

That is using us as one of their first promotionals.

Kind of cool.
